Where does it grow best?

Grow in full sun in well-drained sandy or loamy soil. The original description describes it as hardy, drought and frost tolerant, and wind tolerant.

What does it look like through the year?

Dark-green needle-like foliage remains evergreen, and the bark becomes deeply fissured with age. The tree develops cones containing large, edible pine nuts.
