Why choose a Tasmanian Blue Gum? This fast-growing Australian native develops decorative smooth, mottled bark and distinctive foliage that changes from rounded, blue-grey juvenile leaves to long, sickle-shaped adult leaves. Creamy-white summer flowers and its value as habitat and food for koalas add to its appeal on farms, large gardens and revegetation sites.

How can I use it in my garden?

  • Plant as a shade and shelter tree on a farm or large property

  • Use in an open landscape or large garden

  • Include in a revegetation project

Where does it grow best?

Plant in full sun in deep, well-drained soil; the original description notes it tolerates a wide range of soils, including clay. It is described as frost tolerant and suited to larger gardens, farms and open landscapes.

What does it look like through the year?

Rounded blue-grey juvenile leaves transition to long, sickle-shaped adult foliage, which remains evergreen. Creamy-white flowers appear in summer, and smooth mottled bark provides year-round interest.
